N.J. weather: Severe thunderstorms could hit state with flooding, hail, 60 mph gusts Monday –

Severe thunderstorms could hit New Jersey on Monday afternoon with rain and winds that could gust up to 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Severe thunderstorms could hit New Jersey with heavy rain, large hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph on Monday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
“We are looking at a threat for widespread and potentially significant severe weather across the area Monday afternoon into the evening as a cold front moves across the area west to east,” the weather service’s office in Mount Holly said Sunday morning.
Roughly half of the state west of the I-95 corridor is under an “enhanced” risk for severe storms, while the rest of the state east of I-95 is under a “slight” risk.
The National Weather Service's severe thunderstorm risk categories explained.
The thunderstorms are most likely to sweep across the state between 4 and 7 p.m. on Monday and could include “damaging straight line winds over 60 mph and large hail,” the weather service said.
“Storms will also be capable of producing very heavy rainfall with localized flooding,” the weather service said.
Most of New Jersey started Sunday under a dense fog advisory that is scheduled to expire at 10 a.m. The advisory extends to noon for coastal areas.
Once the fog clears, expect temperatures to rise into the 70s and possibly 80 degrees, though the afternoon could include some scattered showers or thunderstorms, particularly northwest of I-95.
Temperatures on Monday should climb into the 70s and low 80s before the storms arrive in the afternoon.
